Overview
The aging of population is global and brings to the discussion the need to develop, adapt and fine-tune interventions that tackle aged populations regarding their mental/brain health. It is true that both multimorbidity and ageism have inhibited the health actors, professionals, and scientist to give enough attention to older adults’ mental health. In fact, concerns with some of the most prevalent disorders in these development phase – neurocognitive disorders and dementia – have contributed to increase the attention to impact of these conditions in older adults’ well-being and their relatives.
In this special issue, we aim to collect original reports of studies exploring neuropsychological and psychological interventions for older adults with or without dementia, especially studies detailing the theoretical background and contents of such interventions, feasibility and efficacy testing, and also reflecting on the mechanisms of behavior change associated with the success of some interventions.
We particularly welcome studies reporting psychological therapies which are considered as potential treatments for the most burdening mental health issues in ageing (e.g. major depression, schizophrenia, substance use disorders) and dementia including either traditional approaches as well as third wave and technology based approaches.
