Overview
The 1st January 2024 Noto Peninsula (Japan Sea) Mw 7.5 tsunamigenic earthquake was the largest and deadliest event in Japan since the March 2011 M9 earthquake and tsunami catastrophe. The January 2024 event caused at least 240 fatalities, severe destruction of lifeline infrastructure and resulted in destructive cascading impacts such as mass fires and landslides. In order to mitigate the impacts of future events of a similar nature and improve the resilience of coastal structures and communities, it is imperative to undertake a thorough study of this catastrophic event. This special issue is dedicated to articles covering various aspects of the 2024 Noto tsunami and some other recent tsunamis such as the 2023 Türkiye tsunami, 2022 Tonga tsunami, and 2018 Anak Krakatau tsunami. The topics include modeling, field surveys, tsunami warnings, cascading impacts, and coastal resilience.
