Overview
This special issue of our scientific journal places a pronounced emphasis on the multifaceted aspects of energy systems, specifically focusing on the role and development of smart energy systems within the scope of energy economics, sustainability, and climate and energy policies or strategies. We invite research that innovatively intertwines these fields, shedding light on the broader, multidisciplinary scope of smart energy.
------------
The issue seeks to probe the cross-sectoral approach in smart energy systems, analyzing the interaction and synergy between the deployment of renewable energies, energy efficiency, energy storages, and their integration into smart electricity, thermal, and gas grids. We specifically invite research examining renewable energy integration, system re-design, and transitions within the context of energy policy and energy economics.
------------
Articles evaluating or analyzing energy economics from a systems perspective in the light of energy crisis or Covid are also welcome. As are articles focusing on economics and policies focused on electricity, heat, industry, and transportation if there is a strong connection also to the effects at the energy system level. Finally, articles addressing the responsible use and economics of artificial intelligence (AI) in smart energy systems are also encouraged.
