Karen Arndt (University of Pittsburgh, USA) and Stephen Buratowski (Harvard Medical School, USA) together with Journal of Molecular Biology are organizing a special issue focused on the “Regulation of transcription elongation”.
------------
In all organisms, accurate and regulated transcription of the genome is essential for normal growth and development. Transcription elongation, the productive stage of transcription in which nucleotides are added to a growing RNA chain, is now recognized as a critical regulatory target. Protein factors that associate with RNA polymerase during transcription elongation modulate its speed and processivity, controlling the kinetic coupling of transcript synthesis to RNA processing and, in bacteria, translation. In eukaryotes, efficient navigation of the chromatin template requires the functions of transcription elongation factors that interface with nucleosomes to both allow polymerase passage and ensure reassembly of chromatin in the wake of transcription.
------------
Through a collection of research and review articles, our aim is to highlight new discoveries and remaining challenges in our understanding of transcription elongation mechanisms and regulation in both eukaryotic and prokaryotic systems.
------------
Topics include but are not limited to
------------
Pausing/Early Termination Systems
------------
General elongation (after escape past the pausing/early termination window)
------------
Late termination

The editors would like to invite researchers working in this field to submit Research Articles to join this special collection. The submission date is 15 May 2024.
------------
The research article should be in line with JMB’s scope: a molecular mechanistic study having a biological or disease relevance and contributing to the understanding of a significant biological or biochemical mechanism. The work should be of interest to a broad biologically oriented readership of JMB.
------------
Please let us know if you think you might have a suitable paper.
