Membrane processes have emerged as promising solutions in desalination for various wastewaters. Desalination processes not only involve the concentration of salt-contained wastewater, but also include the selective separation of solutes from saline water.. Although the membrane process is environmentally friendly, an important question that needs to be answered is whether the membrane fabrication process itself is green, considering the green concepts in desalination and the expanding membrane market, where toxic solvents and materials are commonly employed.
This special issue of Desalination aims to highlight recent innovations in membrane fabrication using green strategies and interesting membrane processes for salt-contained wastewater separation. The topics covered will include a wide range of subjects such as green membrane formation and characterization, membrane processes for saline water separation, separation of salt, organics, particles, dyes from saltwater, among others. Additionally, transport evaluation and fundamental understanding of molecular transport phenomena are welcome in these aforementioned processes.
